Water damage questions from Lubbock homeowners and property managers
Most questions fall into four groups: what to do in the first hour, how drying and repair work, how Texas mold licensing applies, and what the page does not decide, such as insurance and price. The answers below are short. Each service page goes into more detail.
- Extraction and drying

The first hour
Where is the main water shutoff?
It is usually close to where the water line enters the house. If you cannot find it, turn off the nearest fixture valve and call the line.
Is it safe to walk into a flooded room?
Not until the power to that area is off. Standing water can hide live wiring and loose cords.
Drying and repair
How do I know when the drying is finished?
When the readings in the wet materials match the dry reference readings nearby, not when the equipment is removed on a set day.
Will the crew cut into my walls?
Only where readings stay high in a cavity. The opening is kept small and shown to you before it is made.
Mold in Texas
Who assesses mold in Texas?
A Mold Assessment Consultant licensed by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, under Occupations Code Chapter 1958.
Can one firm assess and remove the mold?
Not on the same project, except for a school district project. Keep the assessment and the removal with separate licensed parties.
What this page does not decide
Will my insurer pay?
This site cannot say. The policy and the insurer decide. Keep your photographs and the crew's readings, and ask your insurer what it needs.
What will it cost?
No figure is published here. The price is explained and approved on site before any work starts.
